How aesthetic knowledge claims influence social transformation during an energy transition

The current environmental crisis is not just a physical problem, but a political and social one, and requires an urgent re-examination of the cultural practices through which we interact with the materiality of the planet. My project is an exploration of these practices and how they influence social transformation accompanying the energy transition. Specifically, I will focus on the practices enabled by the notion of ownership and how it is made operational in the knowledge economy in both senses: of possession, and of mastery.

The departure point of my project is developing a framework of the relationships between the architectures of control in society and the operations of aesthetic practice. The project then develops case studies situated in this field which will be a series of experiments, performed in relation to the science, industry and policy settings from three positions: being outside of the given institution, being embedded within the institution, and enacting the institution.

A core element of the project is an articulation of how the weather and cloud metaphors allow new mappings of relations between the theoretical and the material, and model the way power is perceived today as acting through boundaryless, vast and opaque orchestrations of diffused and ungraspable ‘di minimis' operations.
